You guys, we’re coming up on one year in New York. Can you believe it? Despite all the I-want-to-leave-now moments I have had, I’m so in love with the city right now. I could just kiss it … if it weren’t so filthy.
You’ll remember when I came here, I said it would be for a year and one year only. There were times I wanted to pack up my bags and get out of town. There were times I insisted to Quyn I wanted out. She told me to hang on for a year, and I’d feel differently after that. She. Was. Right.
This was my first weekend here in nearly a month. I missed the city while I was away. Although I was thrilled to spend a weekend in Maryland with my sister and her family, I had some anger inside (not at my sister or her family) that I was missing out on New York. That’s when I truly knew I’m not done here. I also loved going to Minnesota for Christmas, but I missed my city. I missed the subway. I missed stopping in for a plain slice. I missed the tall buildings. I missed the window displays. I missed quiet elevator rides. I missed the Staten Island accents. I missed the crowds.
I’m so excited to find out what happens next, so if you know, no spoilers please.
I’ve got some fun posts in mind for anniversary week. I’m so glad you all came on this “year long vacation” with me.
