On Thursday evening, my roommate and I were talking about how wacky things have been lately and how unsettled we feel. And it just feels impossible to settle ourselves because we keep getting battered. It’s frustrating! For example, My move was planned, a hurricane interrupted it, Election Day was nuts and I couldn’t do anything else, my classes were delayed and rescheduled for the exact same time, etc. etc.

Ashley was switching real estate companies. The move of her files got delayed, the storm forced her to work from home, where she didn’t have access to her listings, the downtown offices were flooded, including the company’s servers, the downtown workers had to work from her office, etc., etc.

After our venting, Ashley said, “Well, Mercury is in retrograde.” I’ve heard that before, but had no idea what it meant. I’m not usually one to follow astrology, but it seemed reasonable as anything to blame that darned planet for my frustrations.

I mentioned it to a couple co-workers yesterday. One agreed, saying she had Mercury warnings in her status yesterday. Another came back later, saying, “Candace! After you said that, I’ve been seeing Mercury retrograde comments all over Facebook.”

I needed to know more. Mercury is in retrograde when the planets appear to be moving backward. The illusion causes plans to go awry and coincidences to be extraordinary.

I have plenty of examples of plans gone awry, but only one good coincidence story. Quyn moved into her new apartment above a restaurant. As she was returning home the other day, she ran into someone she went to high school with in California. The woman works at the restaurant on the street level of Quyn’s building! How strange. Quyn had no idea classmate from like 10 years ago even lived in New York.

This should be done on Nov. 26. Tell me your Mercury stories!
