Surfing in the city

Did you know there’s a gorgeous beach in New York City? I got off the Far Rockaway A at Beach 67, and sure enough! I could hardly believe I was in Queens. The beach at 67th Street is only for boards — no swimming allowed. All along are surf schools. In an effort to cross one off my life to-do list, I signed up with Locals Surf School. My instructor, Mike, was indeed a local, having grown up in this beach community. I’ll admit, I did not do well, but I am going to give myself a break since my arm was supposed to be in a sling. Still, I think I’ll stick to standup paddleboarding. Unless I’m in Hawaii or something. I’d give it another go there.

Here are some pictures from my day at the beach. I didn’t bring my camera in the water with me.
