A couple years ago, my manager told me, “When your life starts getting comfortable, it’s time to shake something up.”
At the time, she was trying to convince me to use the company’s education fund and take a class. Although it took me a while to appreciate her wisdom and follow her advice, I often heard (and still do) those words in my head. And I have to say, it’s one of the best pieces of advice I’ve ever gotten.
Once I got that ball rolling, I took her advice to the extreme. I threw my whole life in a Times Square snow globe and gave it a good shake. New city! New job! New friends! New school! New career path! New relationships! New goals!
As one would expect, I’m often asked why I moved here. I usually answer with a vague, “change of scenery.” But the truth is much more complex. I was stalled. I needed to jumpstart things again. And in just four weeks, I already have. I’ve also realized that I don’t ever want to be stalled again. Why not try to do something great? Why not cross things off my life’s bucket list instead of thinking, “someday”?
So I pass her advice on to you.
