All fired up

I think about the most attractive quality a person can have is passion. Doesn’t even matter so much what that is: travel, career, family, fitness, whatever.

I find it so inspiring when a person can say screw the 9-5. I want to give 110% to opening a yoga studio/being a stay-at-home parent/traveling the world. While I find that inspiring, the all-or-nothing approach doesn’t work for everyone or every situation. It can be reckless! I’ve come to realize that my passion can be for me. It doesn’t have to provide my living.

I once heard someone ask my dad what he does for a living. My dad’s response was, “I do volunteer work, but I also run a plumbing company.” That simple sentence made it clear where his priority was. The plumbing thing is what he does, but it’s not who he is.

I copy edit by day. It’s a good job. I enjoy the challenge of finding just the right words for a headline. Semicolons are not fun, but they are part of the gig. My real passion is writing. Maybe someday I’ll be able to support myself that way, but today I don’t want to burn myself out by writing crap just to write. I’d rather save writing for something I’m passionate about sharing with the world.

My other passion is for people. If you’re in my inner circle, there’s not a thing I wouldn’t do for you. I like to think I am tuned into people and can emphasize with their needs and swoop in and give them what you need – sometimes even undetected.

I’m curious, what are you passionate about? Inspire me!

  1. You are a stealthy and unconditional life saver Candace! It’s true. You are a steadfast friend and helper to all whom you have chosen to love. Many thanks once again for the urban babysitting bailout! I look forward to repaying you properly with a happy hour in the near future…

Let's talk it out
